To accurately identify infectious agents responsible for diseases.
To assist in the selection of appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
To monitor infection trends and antibiotic resistance patterns within the hospital.

Culture & Sensitivity Testing (C/S):
Detection and antibiotic sensitivity profiling of bacterial pathogens from clinical samples such as blood, urine, sputum, pus, stool, and wound swabs.
Gram Staining and Microscopy:
Rapid preliminary identification of bacteria.
Sterility Testing:
For surgical instruments, fluids, and medical equipment.
Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (AST):
Determines the most effective antibiotic for treatment.
Rapid and ELISA-based Tests for early detection of infectious diseases.
Tests performed include:
Typhoid (Widal / TyphiDot)
Dengue (NS1, IgG, IgM)
Malaria (Rapid Antigen Test)
Hepatitis (HBsAg, HCV Antibodies)
HIV (Rapid / ELISA)
Syphilis (VDRL / RPR)
Leptospirosis, Chikungunya, and other endemic infections
Microscopy (KOH Mounts): Detection of fungal elements in clinical samples.
Fungal Culture: Identification of pathogenic fungi in skin, nails, sputum, and other specimens.
Antifungal Sensitivity Testing: Determines the effective antifungal treatment.
Stool Examination: Detection of ova, cysts, and parasites.
Peripheral Blood Smear: For malaria and filaria detection.
Urine Microscopy: Identification of parasitic infestations.

Detection of viral infections such as Hepatitis, HIV, Influenza, and Dengue using serological and molecular methods.
Collaboration with reference laboratories for confirmatory viral testing.
Monitoring of Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs).

Regular environmental and water sampling from ICUs, OTs, and CSSD areas.
Coordination with the Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) for audits and preventive actions.
